Summerfield is a family owned business located in the Pyrenees wine district of Australia, in the heart of regional Victoria.
The Summerfield family has been growing grapes, attending personally to their own vineyard and transforming the fruit into deep, hearty, bold reds for over 30 years. Their complete commitment to the grapes and to producing a special, memorable red wine has led to Summerfield winery being revered by red lovers and has resulted in many trophies, medals and awards.
For more than forty years our family has grown grapes in the Pyrenees region and used traditional wine making methods to create award winning deep, hearty, bold reds.
One hundred years before Summerfield Winery was established our family lived and worked in the Pyrenees region. Working on the land, our family developed a healthy respect and admiration for Australian soil and recognised its potential in delivering quality crops.
With farming on a continuous downturn during the late 1960’s and the planting of vineyards by Taltarni, on land formerly owned by Summerfield, a decision was made by Ian Summerfield to diversify from a traditional farming background into viticulture.
The need to go beyond just grape growing became evident a number of years later and was fulfilled with the ’79 vintage conceived in the winery built by Ian and family along with local builders.
