“Z Wine Julius Topped The 2020 Great Australian Shiraz Challenge out of 435 entries with a double win!
“This 2018 Julius Shiraz will go down as one of the legendary Barossa Valley vintages. Sourced from Southern Barossa Valley fruit of the mature vines, which my sister and I helped our father and grandfather plant on our original Zerk property at Lyndoch. We believe this single vineyard gives our Shiraz its signature, great depth of raspberry and chocolate, but balanced and brooding with savoury notes. A perfect wine for cellaring & consuming with food. A small blend, allowing the best oak to be chosen.” – Janelle Zerk, Winemaker
Deep crimson with purple hue
Plum and mulberry fruit with complimentary black pepper, leather & toasty savoury notes.
Ripe red plum and raspberry fruit are at the fore, but the wine has an intriguing display of liquorice, earthiness, cocoa and black pepper. The tannins are ripe and textural with toasty oak adding warmth and depth. A full-bodied, yet composed, Barossa Valley Shiraz.
Cellaring and Food:
Long term cellaring; 10-30 years plus. We recommend serving this rich and earthy blend with charred meats and aged hard cheeses, such as parmesan.
Open stainless-steel fermenter, cap plunged 3 x times daily, basket pressed, single vineyard
100% Barossa Valley Shiraz
