Katnook Estate ‘Prodigy’ Shiraz 2005

(1 customer review)

$69.00

95pts – Wine Front

“Lots of toasty mocha & nougat oak but it’s bedding down very nicely amongst the rich but vibrant blackberry & raspberry fruit. There’s a twist of pepper & plenty of spice too – all very nice. Medium to full-bodied, fresh & lively with fine-grained ripe tannins & seamless flow through the mouth finishing long & spicy with a cedar aftertaste. Very impressive wine, but one that comes with the caveat that you need to enjoy a good clip of (quality) oak.” – Wine Front

1 review for Katnook Estate ‘Prodigy’ Shiraz 2005

  1. Vinny Blanc

The 2005 ‘Prodigy’ benefitted from an ideal end of the growing season. Coonawarra Shiraz style and grace are evident at every point; nose, palate and finish. Soft dusty tannins seated under a balanced palate of fruit and textures that unfold in the glass as well as on the palate. This is a fun wine to drink. It eveolves in the glass every 15 minutes or so and each time for the better.

Under screw cap, this wine really shows the consistency that so many winemakers are looking for. The wine drinker benefits from the enduring ability to age wines perfectly if often not quickly enough.

The Prodigy has been under rated and overlooked while in the shadow of the odyssey cabernet but I would argue that this shiraz is one of the best made in the Coonawarra if not all of Australia.
