Hutton Vale adjoins Henschke’s ‘Mt. Edelstone’ vineyard & is only 1500 metres from Henschke’s revered “Hill of Grace” vineyard that produces Australia’s second most expensive red wine @ $700/bottle.
Hutton Vale’s total production is just a hat full – Benchmark’s allocation of their Cabernet Sauvignon is just 48 bottles!
“Colin Angas planted grenache in the ’60s, but when 7% failed it was replaced (accidentally) with mataro. Destemmed, open-fermented & matured in French puncheons (20% new) for 2 years. The bouquet is evocative, with notes of spice, brush fence & plum spice, the palate equally complex, putting the lie to the idea these varieties won’t ripen in the Eden Valley. A long life ahead..” – 95 points -“Halliday Wine Companion 2017”
