Tasting Note

This is a lovely fresh bright Shiraz, true to region and variety. There are bright red and some dark fruits on the nose, a hint of chocolate and a mere whiff of oak. The tannins in the mouth are smooth and overall the wine is fresh, juicy and quite delicious. Try it with a Tuscan pepper stew or Peposo and if you have enough Scarlet Runner, you could use it to make the dish, too!

Blackjack Vineyards is situated on an easterly slope, in the old Apple and Pear growing district of the Harcourt Valley on the foothills of Mt.Alexander. Although just south of Bendigo, the climate is considerably cooler, and normally blessed with “Indian Summer” autumns – cool night and warm clear day- allowing the grapes to slowly ripen. The soil is mostly very old, and not overly fertile, granitic soils. The vineyard is hand pruned and hand-harvested. The Shiraz  block was planted in 1988.

In the heart of Southern France’s Rhone valley, about ten minutes from Châteauneuf du Pape, between Avignon and Orange, lies Château Gigognan, a vineyard whose winemaking tradition has roots that can be traced back deep into the history of the region. In 1987 Anne and Jacques Callet became the new owners of the Clos du Roi domain. Inspired with a passion for the history of the property, in 1990 they began a complete renovation of the Château in the traditional provençale country-house style, to return it to its former aristocratic glory. In 1996 work began on a new better-equipped cellar. An organically-farmed vineyard: having made the decision to convert their thirty hectares of Châteauneuf du Pape and forty-two hectares of Côtes du Rhône to organic-farming, the vineyard was awarded ECOCERT certification in 2009.

Clare Valley Shiraz selected from our own premium vineyard sites has produced a wine with strong regional and varietal definition. This sophisticated yet elegant wine has a vibrant crimson hue with aromas and flavours of blackberry, mulberry and fresh cherries.

Battle of Bosworth Organic Shiraz 2019

Concentrated dark red and blue fruits, floral hints, spice, and chocolate mingle in this heady mix. The palate is velvety yet savory with fine chalky mouth-coating tannins in abundance and bright natural acidity giving a fine and persistent spine.

Australia has great Shiraz (aka Syrah) & the styles have become distinctly regional.  Shiraz from the Yarra Valley develops greater finesse & graceful tannins from the cool climate and thus a more elegant style. Soumah has created a subtle yet powerful Shiraz by adding a small amount of Viognier that enhances the ripe fruit bouquet. Luscious & round, full of juicy red fruit with fine tannins & smooth oak. A savoury palate of structure with red and black fruit coupled with fine grained tannins, all bound together with a sweet clip of new oak. This is an intense Syrah, but in an elegant way. It will mature well to the end of the next decade.

A hero variety of the Barossa Valley, this Single Vineyard Shiraz was handpicked from a small parcel harvested from the estate's 35-year-old Shiraz "Old Vines" block.
