Château Gloria
Technical Details
The estate
Founded by Henri Martin, Château Gloria is one of the most iconic properties of the Saint-Julien appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. The singularity of this estate lies in the strength of its vineyard, meticulously assembled by Henri Martin through the acquisition of several vine plots from the Classified Growths of 1855.
The vineyard
Château Gloria produces Saint-Julien wines from a vineyard that covers 50 hectares of vines. The plantings are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The Henri Martin estates, including Château Gloria, have earned the ISO 140001 and HVE level 3 certifications. The vineyard of Château Gloria is cultivated based on the principles of sustainable viticulture, with the use of organic and bio-control products.
The wine
2021 is the estate’s first vintage to be converted to organic and biodynamic practices.
The vintage
The mild and cool winter favoured an early bud break. Although the vineyard was spared frost thanks to its proximity to the estuary and the quality of its terroir, the conditions during spring and summer were marked by little sunshine and a lot of rainfall. The teams’ diligence enabled the vineyard to preserve its healthy condition. The mild weather in September and October and the wide temperature variations between day and night were beneficial for the vineyard.
Vinification
The wine is aged in barrels (of which 54% are new).
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (61%)
Merlot (19%)
Petit Verdot (14%)
Cabernet Franc (6%).
This elegant vintage harmoniously combines charm and refinement with a beautiful structure.
